Ecological
Natural Beauty

The owner of this brick home in Ann Arbor's Burns Park Neighborhood, wanted to re-shape her existing back and side yard landscaping using many of the principles espoused by the Permaculture movement, which emphasizes the use of plant "communities" that enrich the soil, provide habitat for wildlife, and food for humans. The garden contains three distinct outdoor rooms - an open backyard area for play and casual entertaining, complete with a natural stone water feature and integral fire pit and re-claimed wood arbor; an outdoor extension of a meditation room; and a radial vegetable garden with irrigation channels to direct rainwater to thirsty plantings.
